 Those of you who are afraid that AI will take away your job and ruin your future—if you want to compete with AI over the next 15 to 20 years and strengthen your career, you must acquire these 10 AI-related skills.

Why must you acquire AI-related skills? Because if you research properly, 77% of companies worldwide—that's four out of every five companies—are already using AI in their day-to-day activities. Seeing this, many smart individuals are already gaining AI-related skills. As a result, LinkedIn has observed that over the last few years, more than 600% more people every year are adding AI-related skills to their profiles and portfolios and excelling in their careers.

If you think about it even more deeply, an AI researcher from Stanford University stated that the future war will not actually be between AI and humans. Rather, the battle will be between humans who know AI and humans who do not know AI. So, if you truly want to strengthen your career in the days ahead, you need to become AI-savvy—an AI-operated "superhuman." Only then can you compete with and survive against people who do not know AI.

The number one skill you need is understanding how AI works and its various branches. Within Artificial Intelligence, there are concepts like Machine Learning, Deep Learning, Computer Vision, and recently, Large Language Models (LLMs). You can utilize many models as services, and AI/Machine Learning operates from many other angles. You need to have a solid grasp of these angles: how things are built, how models are trained, and how their knowledge gradually expands. If you understand these fundamentals, using AI-related tools will become much more powerful for you.

The second important thing is knowing how to use AI-related tools in every single task you do daily. There is a term for this called Prompt Engineering. How can prompt engineering be effective? How can you store your own context in its memory, or create special personas? For instance, you could configure a persona to act as a senior developer to answer your queries, another to act as a junior designer, one as a chief accountant, or another to make decisions as an entrepreneur. You can create different agents using different personas and profiles. If you don't understand this agent-based thinking, you won't be able to use AI tools efficiently.

The third point requires you to think a bit deeper. Once you learn about AI and know how to use it, you must understand the difference between humans and AI in the future. If you blindly copy and paste from AI, 50, 100, or 5,000 other people can do the exact same thing. That won't create any distinction between you and them. You should definitely leverage AI's superpower for productivity—studies show that people who integrate AI into their work increase their productivity by 40% to 60%. Be one of those highly productive individuals, but ensure your work remains humanized. You must own your work. Combining your creativity and critical thinking with AI's superpowers is what will make you stronger.

The fourth important skill is learning a programming language. Programming is the main pillar of AI, Machine Learning, software, and technology as a whole. You should learn one programming language thoroughly and understand how to build a software tool with it. For example, you could learn Web Development or JavaScript to understand how websites are built, how logic operates, how technology interacts, and how software solves problems. When you work by utilizing software with that mindset, you can truly master it. Similarly, you could learn Python, C++, Java, or any other language. Learning a programming language isn't just useful for AI or technology—if you are a researcher or work within a team, analyzing data, processing it, and making data-driven decisions will become much easier. Moreover, if AI ever makes a mistake, you'll be able to understand how to handle and correct it.

Number five applies if you are a student or a professional: use AI to find ways to automate, build efficiency, and gather information for critical decision-making. For example, suppose you have exams in three months covering five subjects, and you have specific free days or upcoming commitments like Ramadan. You can input all your parameters into AI to generate a tailored routine, and then follow up with it after a few days. AI can act as your personal mentor or coach. Similarly, if you write code and hit an error, instead of asking for a direct answer, you can tell the AI: "Here is the code I wrote; tell me how to resolve this error, or how this code can be written more efficiently." Or, "I've solved these math problems in this chapter; give me some practice problems to test my knowledge," or "I know these accounting formulas/marketing principles; what else should I learn?" Integrating AI into your everyday activities will bring a significant boost to your routine, productivity, and performance. Need a summary of a massive slide deck? AI can summarize it for you. Need to write a report? AI can help refine it and improve your English.

Use AI aggressively to tackle your personal weaknesses. For instance, if you struggle with English speaking and feel shy practicing in front of people, open ChatGPT, enable voice mode, and start speaking. Afterwards, ask: "Based on what I just said, which words did I mispronounce? Where were my grammatical mistakes? Let's have a 5 to 10-minute conversation." Where else could you get a free, on-demand English practice partner like that?

Number seven applies if you struggle with writing emails, networking, or sending professional messages on LinkedIn. Suppose you want to reach out to a senior professional on LinkedIn to build a relationship before eventually asking for a job. You can inform ChatGPT: "Here is this person's profile. I haven't spoken to them yet. I don't want to immediately ask for a job; how should I write the initial message? If they respond with X, what should I say next?" Utilizing AI to guide your professional etiquette step-by-step will make your career journey much smoother.

Number eight: use AI for specific tasks like presentations, interviews, or job applications. Paste a job description into ChatGPT along with your resume and ask: "I have an interview for this role. Give me 10 or 20 potential interview questions, evaluate my answers, and tell me what else I should prepare to be the top candidate." It will assist you exceptionally well. If you are creating presentation slides or reports, AI can help polish your language. You can even use tools designed to humanize AI text so it reads naturally. Applying these tools, tips, and tricks will take your efficiency to a whole new level.

Number nine is conducting deep research on a topic outside your domain. For example, if you background is in Civil Engineering, try doing a deep dive into an unrelated subject—such as marine biology (whales), Bangladesh's climate trends, national garment industry challenges, or technology 100 years in the future. Do not rely 100% on copying and pasting directly from ChatGPT or AI. Whenever you obtain something from AI, process it using your own judgment, intellect, and personal style before using it. That is how you become an AI-superpowered person rather than a lazy copy-paste person. A career built solely on copy-pasting from AI will not survive.
